Broadband Pricing in North and Latin America

Broadband Pricing in North and Latin America

In the northern and the Latin America, Broadband Pricing is a very high such that it is one of the places that have the highest prices of broadband in the world. Data shows that in the last three months of the year 2014 the average price paid in the Latin America 78 US dollars for the fixed broadband services. The second place in terms of high prices was the North America with 71 US dollars meaning that the north America pays as twice as the average price paid in Europe which present the lowest expensive region for the fixed broadband with US$38. This is interesting bearing in mind the fact that South and the North America are geographically located but very big gap in terms of the access to the broadband and their penetration.

The northern and the Latin America have the highest price gap between the uncapped and the capped packages for the fixed broadband. This means that capped connections are still very costly in these regions of the world. In terms of broadband data Latin America outdoes all the rest of the world as the most expensive .In this region mobile broadband data costs on average a price of US$23 per gigabit (GB) compared to the US$19 for Africa and the US$ 16.60 for the Middle East. In North America it costs an average of US$21. This means the mobile and the data sectors has a very long way to go in terms of growth in Latin and the North America. However reports show that there is improvement in the mobile technologies and more companies get in competition the prices are most likely going to reduce.

This is not a surprise that Latin America rank ahead of the other regions in terms of broadband price and the highest cost of connections since the price of Internet is still high in these region.

Although statistics shows that Latin America has a very high population compared to south and central America, this means that the north America presents in future a very dramatic and dynamic growth potential especially with Broadband Pricing which are becoming increasingly accessible and affordable to the growing population. It is expected that the digital divide among the two regions of north and Latin America most likely will close as a results of the increase in the number of broadband users in the region.

The Broadband Pricing phenomenon can be attributed to the fact that a greater majority of the people of Latin America lives below the poverty level.
